Crown Princess Mary was the picture of elegance on Monday as she stepped out in a stunning navy ball gown to celebrate the 75th birthday of Queen Margrethe II’s sister Princess Benedikte.
Appearing hand in hand with her husband Crown Prince Frederik, Mary stole the show in the floor-length number, flashing just the right amount of skin thanks to the frock’s unusual one-shoulder design.
The Australian-born member of royalty completed her look with a small black clutch bag and a matching pair of diamond earrings and a bracelet. While her husband, who she shares four children with, coordinated with his glamorous wife in a navy suit, which featured black lapels, and a black bow tie.
The Danish royal family shared several photographs on social media to mark the occasion, including a number of the royals arriving at Christian VII’s Palace for Benedikte’s party.
“The royal family arrives here for HRH Princess Benediktes 75th birthday, which is held in Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg,” the post read.
One wrote: “Wow Mary, what a beautiful dress … They and Crown Prince Frederick are beautiful couples [sic]. With you at the helm, the Danish monarchy meets a bright future.”
Another said: “Denmark’s absolutely loveliest, most beautiful and most cordial couple.” While a third wrote: “Hand in hand. Together. It is touching to see our cordial couple. They are the best together. Great Frederik and sparkling beautiful Mary. They and the rest of the Royal House make me proud as a Dane.”
It is the second time the couple, who married in 2004, have stepped out together this week, as the pair made an appearance at a concert in Copenhagen last Friday.
Mary and Frederik were at the concert held at the DR Concert Hall to present the Léonie Sonning Music Prize 2019 for excellency in music. The honorary prize is awarded every year to an internationally recognised composer, musician, conductor or singer.
The couple certainly looked ready to celebrate with Mary sporting a beautiful black lace dress and diamond earrings. The dress was more revealing than the ball gowns and stylish suits the Australian-born princess usually wears, with her black slip clearly visible under the sheer lace overlay of the beautiful dress.
