Some time after Bill had died, his widow Susie was finally able to speak about what a wonderful and thoughtful man her late husband had been.

“Bill thought of everything,” she told her friend Nancy. “You know, just before he died, Bill called me to his bedside and handed me three envelopes.”

“Really?” said Nancy. “And what did he say?”

“He said, Susie, I have put my last wishes in these three envelopes. After I am dead, please open them and do exactly as I’ve instructed. Then I can rest in peace,” Susie responded.

“So what was in the envelopes,” Nancy enquired.

“In the first envelope, there was $5,000 with a note that said, ‘please use this money to buy a nice casket’. So I bought a beautiful mahogany casket with thick padding in the lining so I know Bill is resting very comfortably,” Susie responded.

“In the second envelope there was $10,000 with a note that said, ‘please use this for a nice funeral’. So I arranged a very dignified funeral for Bill, attended by all his friends and family.

“Then, in the third envelope, there was $20,000 with a note that said, ‘please use this to buy a suitable stone so I’m remembered’.”

At this point, Susie held up her hand and pointed to the 10-carat diamond ring on her finger. “So, Nancy, do you like the stone?”
