Queen’s favourite beauty product cheaper than you think

The Queen is a fan of pink, the colour, not the singer.

You’d never know it by looking at her but Queen Elizabeth II loves a bargain – especially when it comes to her signature nail colour.

It’s been reported that Her Majesty has worn the same pale pink lacquer which retails for $16.95, since 1989.

The light pink shade Ballet Slippers is made by American cosmetics brand Essie.

And according to the brand’s website, the Queen has been wearing the same colour on her royal nails for the past 28 years.

Allegedly, the monarch’s personal hairdresser wrote to the company’s founder Essie Weingarten to ask for a bottle of their best-selling pale pink polish after the Queen had said no to other colours.

As Her Majesty has her wardrobe tailored to fit in order to make her stand out in a crowd, the understated hue of the polish makes it a suitably shade to match.

And it seems she’s a trend setter among young people as well — everyone from Kate Middleton to supermodel Karlie Kloss are fans.

The Duchess of Cambridge choosing Ballet Slippers as her nail colour for her 2011 wedding to Prince William.

Kloss has said Ballet Slipper was her “go-to” colour adding, “a pale nail looks super chic, especially when you have a nice tan”.

And while we’re sure we won’t be seeing Queen Elizabeth sun bathing any time soon, it’s good to know there are some things us commoners can share with the Royal.

Essie Cosmetics was founded in 1981 by former fashion buyer Essie Weingarten.

Weingarted began the company by selling 12 nail polishes in different colours in Las Vegas.

The brand was then sold to L’Oreal in 2010 after it had grown into a multi-million dollar empire; grossing over $37 million a year in annual sales.
