Queen delights in vibrant dress at garden party

Queen Elizabeth opened the royal grounds for a special day.

The royal family has opened the gates to Buckingham Palace once more, inviting 8,000 guests over for a spot of tea, cake and cucumber sandwiches.

The Queen looked wonderful in a summery light-blue outfit, complete with matching hat and umbrella and her trademark patent leather heels.

She was joined by Prince Philip who was dashing in a top hat and tails for the occasion.

The Queen’s garden parties are a long-running tradition and one of the hottest tickets in town.

Anyone can apply to attend the parties, usually through their country’s British embassy website, with those chosen rewarded with a relaxed afternoon mingling on the royal grounds with the Queen and Duke.

The Queen hosts three garden parties every year, with those wanting to attend advised to get in early.

An extra-lucky selection of guests will even be granted a personal introduction to the Queen.

It appears the royal monarch had a lovely time at yesterday’s party. She was pictured laughing and chatting with guests throughout the afternoon before she and Prince Philip retired for the evening.

Later, the Royal Family wrote a short message and shared pictures from the day on their Insatgram.

“Her Majesty was joined by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra as 8000 guests, invited from all walks of life enjoyed tea, sandwiches and cake in the Palace grounds.”
