Alan Jones back in hospital with serious health scare

The shock jock has been through a series of health issues.

Legendary radio host Alan Jones is back in hospital with an infection after suffering a series of health setbacks over the past year.

Jones only returned to the 2GB airwaves in March following a four-month break for multiple surgeries on his neck and back.

“Good morning, back in hospital with a nasty bug,” he wrote on Facebook this morning.

“Recovering slowly, doctors say I need another week. I wound up in Intensive Care but now recovering well. Feel like I’ve gone 15 rounds with Ali.”

Chief Operating Officer of Macquarie Media Adam Lang — the network that controls 2GB Sydney – told The Daily Telegraph that Jones would be off-air indefinitely.

“He is unwell but recovering,” he said.

Lang said he wasn’t sure when Jones would returned, but didn’t think he would be gone for too long.

“At this point we don’t have a date,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“We don’t want to put any pressure on him. I hope it’s not too long, I don’t think it will be too long, but if I put a date on it, it puts pressure on him which we don’t want to do.”

Jones joined 2GB in 2002 and has been a ratings bonanza for the station ever since.

The first radio ratings survey for 2017 found that the stations breakfast show increased listeners 0.3 of a percentage point to 13.8 per cent since Jones’ return.
