Princess Beatrice unlikely royal hero after sister’s engagement

Princess Eugenie announced her engagement just days ago to her long-time boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, but her sister Beatrice has gained her own support from fans this week too – for a very unusual reason.

While the world celebrates another royal wedding, a few online users have expressed sympathy on social media for “single” Beatrice. She has been enjoying her independence ever since splitting with her ex-boyfriend, Dave Clark, who she began dating 10 years go when she was just 17 years old.

Clark went on to start a relationship with New York advertising executive Lynn Anderson within months of their split, and they got engaged in May 2017.

While the Princess has given no indication she’s not enjoying life without a partner, fans have shared a huge outpouring of support all the same, with many saying they related to her and are rooting for her to find love, too.

One Twitter user wrote: “A moment for Princess Beatrice, who split from her boyfriend of TEN. YEARS. in 2016 (only to see him get engaged 6 months later) and now has to find TWO ugly ‘occasion hats’ to wear to her cousin and younger sister’s weddings in 2018.”

And one added: “I do feel sorry for unlucky in love #PrincessBeatrice. When will her Prince Charming come? Or even Mr Right?”

Princess Eugenie, the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, announced she was engaged earlier this week.

“The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Eugenie to Mr Jack Brooksbank,” Eugenie’s parents announced in the UK on Monday. Her Royal Highness and Mr Brooksbank became engaged in Nicaragua earlier this month.

“The wedding will take place in the autumn of 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, with further details to be announced in due course.”

It’s the same chapel that will host the wedding of Prince Harry and his popular American fiancee, Meghan Markle, in May. A Buckingham Palace spokesman told the BBC that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Princess Eugenie’s grandparents, were “very pleased and wish the couple all the best”.

While being single seems to be the worst thing imaginable for many of these young royal fans, it’s likely Beatrice is quite happy with her life the way it is and doesn’t need a man to fill the void, thank you very much.

Do you think Beatrice deserves the sympathy she’s receiving? Do you care about being single or do you prefer having a partner?
