Exciting news for Meghan Markle as she takes on first royal role

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be joining forces.

Prince Harry announced his bride-to-be Meghan Markle will join him in his work as youth ambassador to the Commonwealth as he attended a forum in London on Monday.

Harry, 33, has gushed over his fiancé Meghan, 36, in a speech at the Commonwealth summit, saying he is “incredibly grateful” she will be working alongside him.

Making his first address since being appointed Commonwealth Youth Ambassador by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, Harry said: “I am incredibly grateful that the woman I am about to marry, Meghan, will be joining me in this work, of which she too is hugely excited to take part in”.

He added: “In my new role, I will work to support The Queen, my father The Prince of Wales, and my brother William, all of whom know that young people are the answer to the challenges of today.”

The prince paid tribute to the Queen as he addressed the room as the Commonwealth Youth Forum.

“All of us here today can be grateful that it is a long life The Queen is still enjoying. Her Majesty’s commitment has meant that The Commonwealth is a thriving family of nations, a common link between nearly two and a half billion people, and a defender of democracy, justice, and peace.

“I believe firmly that central to The Queen’s success in supporting The Commonwealth has been her constant focus on not just the Prime Ministers and Presidents of member nations, but of the people themselves.”

The job will see Harry work to create links between young people and leaders and help them address social, environmental and economic challenges around the world.

He told the young people in front of him, “You are connected. You have made positive use of technology to build relationships within your communities, nations and across the globe”.

The power couple will undertake tours to Commonwealth countries, (which means we might see more of them) and convene meetings in the U.K. to “discuss how best we can make Commonwealth platforms work for you, and to ensure maximum impact,” he said. “Both here in the U.K. and as I travel, my job will be to listen to you.”

The speech comes at an exciting time for the royal family: Catherine is expected to give birth any day now, and the countdown is on for Harry and Meghan’s highly anticipated wedding on May 19.

What do you think? Are you excited for them? Will you be watching the royal wedding?
