Girls day out! Beatrice and Eugenie go for ladylike chic in New York

The York sisters have flown to coup and touched down in New York for a day at the United Nations, where Princess Eugenie hosted a meeting about the effort to end modern slavery.

With her sister Princess Beatrice close by for support, Eugenie took centre stage at the event, held at the UN’s headquarters in Manhattan, and spoke about the 40 million people affected by modern slavery every day.

Proud mum Sarah Ferguson shared a photo of her girls posing together at the event, and wrote: “So proud of my girls Beatrice and Eugenie.”

The plight to end slavery is an issue that’s been close to the Eugenie heart since she accompanied her mother to India in 2013. All three of the York women have dedicated much of their charity work to helping those affected by slavery, as well as homelessness and education for underprivileged children.

Just last year Eugenie founded The Anti-Slavery Collective to help end the epidemic around the world, while Beatrice is a global ambassador for Children in Crisis, a charity founded by her mother in 1993.

The day out in the Big Apple was likely a welcome change for Eugenie, who just last week got a flogging in the British press over plans for her upcoming wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

Daily Mail writer Jan Moir tore the young princess to shreds in a acid-tongued article in which she compared the princess to the Queen’s corgis and accused her of having a “hunger for glitz and royal glamour that is every bit as monstrous as Mother Fergie’s”.

“Despite being ninth in line to the throne and about as constitutionally important as one of the Queen’s corgis, the 28-year old princess clearly has her heart set on a full-throttle, trumpet- tootling extravaganza, complete with all the royal trimmings,” Moir began her lengthy article.

Eugenie recently announced she and Jack will invite members of the public to watch them exchange vows, before enjoying a carriage ride through Windsor after their service at St George’s Chapel.

“Very magnanimous of her, I’m sure. However, it does beg the question — who the hell does Princess Eugenie think she is?” Moir asked.

The article was met with anger from Fergie, who shared a letter written by Sarah Wade, the CEO and Co-founder of Humanitas Charity, of which the Duchess of York is a patron, and sent to the Daily Mail.

“I have read Jan Moir’s article on the plans of Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank featured in today’s Daily Mail, and I am appalled at the vitriol that is expressed in the piece,” the letter began.

Wade questioned the purpose of the article and asked if it was intended to make the young couple feel embarrassed or ashamed of their wedding or to incite anger and hatred towards them.

Upon sharing a photo of the letter to her Instagram page, Fergie wrote: “Couldn’t agree more with this letter about the disgusting article that Jan Moir wrote about @princesseugenie and Jack. Bullying at its’ premium and hiding behind a newspaper commenting about people you’ve never met.”

Eugenie won’t have to put up with the criticism for too much longer however. She and Jack are set to say “I do” on 12 October with the entire royal family, and likely the world, watching on.
