Big breakthrough as police finally lay Karen Ristevski murder charge

Update: Karen Ristevski’s husband Borce Ristevski has revealed he will plead not guilty. 

Police have finally charged someone over the brutal murder of Karen Ristevski.

Her husband, Borce Ristevski, has been charged with one count of murder of his wife, according to reports that named the man.

The Missing Persons Squad made the arrest at 7:20am this morning and Ristevski is expected to face the Melbourne Magistrates court today.

Victoria Police released a statement with details of the charge.

“A man has been charged this morning following the disappearance of Avondale Heights woman Karen Ristevski in 2016,” the statement said.

“A 53-year-old Avondale Heights man was arrested about 7.20am this morning by detectives from the Missing Persons Squad.”

While the police didn’t identify Ristevski as the person charged, he has been named by multiple media outlets including ABC News and The Australian

Ristevski has previously denied any involvement in the disappearance of his wife, .

His arrest comes after Karen went missing from her Oakley Drive home in Avondale Heights in Melbourne in June 2016.

After months of fruitless searching by police, Karen’s body was discovered by a member of the public in bushland in the Mount Macedon Regional Park on February 20. Her remains were found under a log in the park, but police have not publicly released her cause of death.

At the time, Ristevski said he was the last person to see his wife alive on June 29 last year..

He said she left the home to clear her head, but after failing to return the next day, he reported her missing.

Hundreds of people attended a funeral for Karen in March, where Ristebski was one of the people carrying her coffin.
