At 73, Rod Stewart admits he’s finally slowing down between the sheets

He’s known for his raunchy songs, taste for statuesque blondes and cutting a swathe through legions of groupies, but Rod Stewart admits he’s finally slowing down between the sheets – even if it has taken until he was 73.

The singer’s been happily married to wife Penny Lancaster, 47, since 2007 and says he’s now happy to have a kiss and a cuddle before bed, and nothing more.

I love sex with my wife but I love just giving her a hug before we go to bed,” he told The Mail on Sunday newspaper’s Event magazine this weekend in a candid interview. “Every night we have a kiss and a hug and that doesn’t always lead to sex but it’s still lovely.”

Not only is he no longer champing at the bit to get hot and heavy, but the ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’ singer also admits it takes a bit to get him going these days. “Well, I need a bit of a start on the handle now, that’s for sure,” he jokes. “Like a vintage car.”

But he wouldn’t swap happy family life with Penny and their sons Aiden, 7, and Alastair, 12, for a return to his lothario days, which Stewart admits saw him act like a cad plenty of times. “It was a different era but that’s no excuse really,” he says of the abrupt way he ended some previous dalliances. “I can be accused of being cowardly, and rightly so.”

Lancaster is Stewart’s third wife but he also had plenty of high-profile girlfriends, including model Britt Ekland, and is the father of eight children, including a 55-year-old daughter who was given up for adoption in 1963 when the singer, then 17, and his teenage girlfriend and mother of his child broke up.

Has your love life slowed down in your later years or are you as hot to trot as ever?
