He may be struggling with his biggest cancer battle yet but that hasn’t stopped X Factor superstar Johnny Ruffo from celebrating his mate’s 65th birthday.

The former Home and Away star recently took to Instagram to let fans know that he was helping Lynne McGranger celebrate her big day in style. In typical Johnny Ruffo fashion, he chose to make a joke of her special day.

Sharing a stunning photograph of himself with his former co-star, the 29-year-old was beaming from ear to ear as he snuggled up to Lynne. “Incredible arvo with this amazing woman,” he wrote to his hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers. “Having a few drinks to celebrate her 21st tomorrow, love you to the moon and back.”

The happy snap comes after Johnny vowed to beat cancer this year. In an emotional post at the start of the month, the singer suggested that 2017 had been his toughest year to date. “2017 was the most challenging year I have ever experienced, being diagnosed with brain cancer and having a 7cm tumour removed from my brain was about as low as it got for me,” he said. “But I’m a fighter and I will keep fighting. I’ve had incredible support around me and I couldn’t have done it without you all, gonna beat cancer this year and make it my best year yet, thank you.”

As for Lynne, the jokes didn’t stop there on her big day. In addition to her hit show Home and Away returning to screens for another season, she appeared on the Fitzy and Wippa radio show on Nova where she was presented with an over-sized Seniors Card. The card featured a photo of her and was an exact replica of a real card – except that it was nearly as big as Lynne. She shared the hilarious snap on her Instagram page.

Despite turning 65, Lynne has showed no signs of slowing down. She’s played Irene Roberts on Home and Away since 1993 and remains the longest serving cast member behind Alf Stewart actor Ray Meagher. She’s also just returned to Australia from the United Kingdom after a successful stint in a Beauty and the Beast pantomime. Fans became concerned that she would be leaving Home and Away for good to pursue the role, but she assured fans that it was only temporary while production for the Aussie soap shut down over the Christmas period.

Fans were quick to wish the iconic actress well wishes for her big day. Joking about her new Seniors Card, one fan wrote: “Yay $9 chicken Parma including chocolate pudding.” Another said: “Happy Birthday you gorgeous woman!! 65 years young xx” A third added: “Happy birthday Lynnie! Hope you’ve had an awesome day!”
