‘Brave and selfless’ Jamie Oliver tackles ‘aggressive’ home intruder

Jamie Oliver has been hailed a hero after chasing down an “aggressive” intruder who allegedly tried to break into his home while his wife and kids were asleep inside.

According to the Daily Mirror, the 43-year-old celebrity chef caught the would-be thief attempting to break in to his $16million (AU £8.9million) mansion in Highgate, London. It’s claimed he managed to chase the criminal down the street before pinning him to the ground until police arrived.

The publication claims the intruder had already attempted to break in to other homes on the exclusive street, before reaching the Oliver’s residence.

“It was just a brave, selfless thing to do,” one neighbour told the newspaper. “Despite the clearly very hairy situation, Jamie was laughing and joking with the coppers saying they’d done a great job to arrive so quickly after the 999 call. Everyone is really thankful for his quick thinking and courage.”

It’s claimed Jamie first became aware something was wrong when he heard a commotion from a neighbour’s home. As he went to investigate, he is said to have come face to face with the burglar himself.

It’s thought one of the other homes on the intruder’s hit list belongs to supermodel Kate Moss, but it’s yet to be confirmed if anything was taken.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said in a statement: “At 7.13pm on Tuesday, 4th of September, police were called to reports of an aggressive male attempting to gain entry to residential addresses in N6.

“The male was apprehended by members of the public and was ­subsequently detained by police. He was taken to a North London police station where he remains at this time. Officers from Central North Command Unit are investigating.”

Meanwhile, the chef’s wife, Jools Oliver, previously shared a series of snaps from inside the couple’s stunning Grade II-listed Hampstead property in December last year, revealing the fancy furnishings the couple and their five children enjoy.

The former model left property fans in a frenzy after she uploaded a picture of the couple’s son, Buddy, lounging on her lavish Louis XV-style bed, with his boots still on. 

Fans were quick to comment, with several of her followers exclaiming how much they loved the lavish decor.
