Australian actor Hugh Jackman made a touching tribute to his father on Sunday, who single-handedly raised him after he was abandoned by his mother.

In honour of Father’s Day, which was celebrated in the US and UK at the weekend, the 49-year-old actor took to Instagram to share a loving message about his dad, who has stood by his side through the thick and thin.

When he was only a child, Hugh’s mum Grace, left Australia for the UK, leaving the parenting of Hugh and his two brothers and two sisters up to dad, Chris.

Bringing tears to the eyes of many, Hugh’s loving post touched on Chris’ excellent parenting and influence into the Aussie star’s life.

“Happy Father’s Day to the man who taught me to show respect for others, for education, for being led by your passions. who taught me to never stop growing and learning. To work hard and realise that preparation is the bedrock for success. And above all, to find purpose beyond oneself. I love you dad,” Hugh wrote.

The heartfelt post sparked emotion amongst fans, who commended Chris for being above all, a great dad.

“He must be so proud of you, not only in your stardom but in the man you are… that’s why we all love you…so real,” one person commented.

“You’re an extremely blessed man to have such a fabulous, insightful and wise father, who has instilled in you the true secrets to living a good life! Happy Father’s Day to both of you!” another added.

Hugh told The Sun in 2011 that he had reconciled with his mother, Grace, who would return to Australia to visit him once a year while he was growing up. He also revealed that Grace was suffering from undiagnosed post-natal depression when she departed for the UK without warning.

Known as a true family man, Hugh has taken a page out of his father’s book, building a strong relationship with children Oscar and Ava and wifem Deborra-Lee Furness.

“I believe in life we need to see and truly be seen by the most important people in our lives. Deb, from day one, we had that. 22 years later..it only gets deeper. You and the kids are the greatest gift I will ever receive. I love you a gazillion times around the word,” the Aussie actor wrote on his anniversary in April.
