Some faces resist the passage of time better than others, but time takes its toll anyway. We cannot stop the ageing process, but we can do our best to age gracefully and even deceive strangers by appearing somewhat younger. There are different skin rejuvenation techniques, but all of them aim for revitalising the dermis, which is a deeper layer of the skin.

Structure of dermis includes collagen, elastic fibers, and hyaluronan that make our skin tight and radiant. Rejuvenating the skin means stimulating the dermis to improve production of these elements and to maintain a youthful glow. There are several techniques that are quite successful and can have us looking years younger.

Soft tissue fillers — often referred to as ‘wrinkle killers’ — are very popular dermal stimulants that can take care of the number of issues from wrinkles, scars, and acne to complete resculpting of the face by lifting the cheekbones and restoring fullness to hollow cheeks and eyes. There are different types of fillers, so many times surgeons or dermatologists use a combination of the fillers to achieve the most natural and rejuvenated look. The good thing about the fillers is that they are applicable at any age, effects last six to 18 months, while there is little or no downtime.

A skin peel is a technique of removing the top layer of the epidermis, which polishes the skin and boosts the growth of the fresh cells. Chemical exfoliating is very successful when dealing with age spots, wrinkles, and discoloration. After the exfoliation, there is a visible change in skin texture, pigment, and radiance. Skin peels noticeably resurface the skin and minimise pores, making our face look fresh and revitalised. Depending on the type of the peel and chemicals, we can have a skin peel several times a year.

Useless for knitting, but microneedling is a great way to stimulate the production of elastin and collagen in deeper layers of our skin by repeatedly penetrating it with tiny, sharp needles. Even though it seems like a painful procedure, fear not because the surgeon will numb the skin before the treatment. Microneedling is a technique that successfully targets scars and wrinkles while it has positive effects on the thickness of the skin and pigmentation. Recovery lasts no longer than 24 hours.

As the result of constant technology improvement, the cosmetic industry has come up with some great innovations in beauty and rejuvenating treatments. Many of the best surgeons in that field adopted lasers, light, and sound therapies in their practice as an effective alternative to more invasive procedures. For example, therapy with broadband light (BBL) uses pulsed light to heat the dermis and to encourage production of collagen. Lasers are very precise in removing wrinkles, while ultherapy uses ultrasound energy that causes the skin to tighten without the surgery.

Anything that can help us heal or rejuvenate already exists in nature, or even better, in our homes. Our kitchen is the source of best possible ingredients for face masks and natural skin peels. Make sure to use best of it and to create your natural skin care products that will help your skin to look fresh and younger. Ingredients like avocado, green tea, cucumbers, turmeric, milk, honey and olive oil are just some of them. Fruits like banana, apricot, and papaya are great when applied to the skin, mixed with lemon juice or yogurt. Not only they act as antioxidants, but they nourish the skin with vitamins and minerals, much needed for the youthful glow.

Vitamins A, C, and E will make wrinkles flee. Make sure to include food rich in proteins, fibre, and vitamins. Vitamins A, C, and E are best for dull and ageing skin. Vitamin A rebuilds skin tissue, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and is crucial for collagen and elastin synthesis, while vitamin E promotes healing and improves skin texture. Although eating food rich in vitamins is a must, keep in mind that applying those ingredients externally will speed up the skin recovery.
