Trump delays meeting with Turnbull

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is currently in New York ahead of his planned meeting with US President Donal Trump.

The highly anticipated meeting was delayed when Trump spent the afternoon lobbying for votes to pass a repeal of Obamacare, the affordable care act put in place by former President Barrack Obama which was described by Trump as “a catastrophe”.

Mr Trump and Mr Turnbull are due to speak together at a gala dinner aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Intrepid on the Hudson River, marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea.

The meeting between the two leaders has been of interest after the first phone call between them after Trump was elected didn’t go so well.

After the phone call which Trump reportedly described as “the worst call by far” and during which he apparently told Turnbull that a refugee deal struck between the PM and Barrack Obama was “dumb”, there was much speculation about the strength – or weakness – of the relationship between the Prime Minister and the President.

Turnbull has reportedly been spending his day in New York visiting various sites, including the Joint Terrorism Taskforce at NYPD headquarters in downtown Manhattan.

How do you think the Trump and Turnbull meeting is likely to go, given Trump’s somewhat unpredictable temperament?
