‘Thinking of you’: Fans rally behind Lisa Curry following heartbreaking post

A year on from the heartbreaking loss of her mother, Australian swimming legend Lisa Curry has reflected on the profound impact her mother had on her life and how she has been coping with her grief.

Taking to Instagram recently, Curry posted a touching video montage of the “treasured memories” she shared with her mum who passed away on March 3, 2022, at the age of 86.

“Our mum, ma, mama. Time goes so quickly. So many treasured memories. This music, mums favourite piece, Danny Boy, is played by my brother from Germany at the moment she slipped away 1 year ago at 10.12am,” she wrote alongside the video.

“Give your mum a call now and let her know how much you love her. We wish we could.

“Much loved. Resting peacefully. 3/3/23.”

Fans were quick to offer their love and support to Curry, many sharing their own stories of losing a loved one and how they are coping.

“Sending love & hugs to you & the family Lisa. I lost my mum in 2012 & no matter how much time passes it’s never the same with her not being here,” one supporter wrote.

“She was mum to the famous Lisa curry, whom all Australians love. Your mum would have been so proud and her life enriched with all the things you achieved.”

“Thoughts are with you and your family Lisa at this difficult time. The first year without a loved one is always the hardest. Sending love to you all,” another commented.

“Lost my mum in sept 2009 and the pain still lingers. I wish I could hug her one more time. I’m reading your book now and your mum was a strong and amazing lady.”

“I remember you beautiful Mum Lisa. I was her hairdresser for a wee time in late 70’s. I always remember her as a lovely lady who loved her family and she also had a strength but had ackind heart and calmness. Its always hard losing your Mama but remembering the good times, always puts you in another place. Thinking of you and your family.”

Curry announced the passing of her mum in March 2022 in a poignant post to social media in which she told her fans that her “heart is broken again”.

“Our beautiful mum slipped away peacefully this morning,” Curry wrote.

“My heart is broken again.

“My baby girl, and now my mum.”

Curry’s Instagram caption detailed how her brother had travelled for 48 hours from Berlin to the Sunshine Coast to visit their sick mother, who had waited patiently for his arrival.

A heartbroken Curry described how the family shared laughs, memories and tears as they enjoyed their last moments with their loved one.

Curry ended the post with a heartfelt thank you to her late mum, wishing her love and peace.

“Thank you for being a wonderful mother,” she wrote.

“Have a nice long sleep mum. We love you so much and we’ll all miss you.”
