While finding a note stuck to your car is usually a cause for concern, one Queensland family have their neighbours to thank this week after they warned them that a brazen snake had taken up residence in their parked car. The Logan family returned home to find the scrap of paper attached to their vehicle, notifying them of the slippery serpent’s movements.
Pinned to the vehicle which was parked outside of the family’s home just south of Brisbane, the handwritten note sent an urgent warning to the residents not to drive their car and to call for immediate help them to remove the reptile.
Shared on social media the message read: “Do not drive your car! There’s a snake in underneath or in your motor. Call a snake catcher for your own sake! Please this is no joke!”

Thankfully, the family took the advice after viewing footage from their home security camera which showed the snake making its way into the vehicle and quickly dialled the local snake catcher for help. Bryce Lockett came to the rescue within minutes and it turned out the note writer was correct, as the 1.6 metre long carpet python was discovered curled up on a warm spot under the car’s bonnet.
Taking to Facebook to share the discovery Bryce posted a photo of the snake happily taking a nap without any care in the world of the shock it had caused. “A very concerned passerby left this note on this car and the owners decided not to risk it and got us out and turns out it was no joke,” he wrote alongside the photo.
The kind actions of the neighbour has sent the Internet into the frenzy with people across the country commending him for alerting the family. “What a nice person,” one person wrote on Facebook. “They didn’t have to leave a note.” While another wrote: “Good on them for leaving a note! That’s awesome!” And a third said: “Good community spirit.”

Speaking about the frightening turn of events on the Today show on Tuesday morning, Bryce explained that while it was quite concerning for the residents to find the snake in their car, snakes of this type are not harmful for humans and should be treated carefully when found in one’s home. “First of all the residents were quite concerned that there could possible be a snake in the bonnet,” he told the hosts. “Upon arrival it was smaller bonnet to what we have here and I found him resting right up on here getting the warmth from the car.”
The snake catcher continued by explaining that it’s not uncommon for snakes to hide away in cars for both the warmth and protection of threats such as birds and people. Meanwhile, he also commended the neighbour for leaving the note and said it’s important to protect snakes from unnecessary harm.
“The note was good a change,” Bryce explained. “We see a lot of bad stuff in the way of snakes being killed and the rest of it so I thought it was quite pleasing to see there is still a bit of hope out there that people do like to get the snake catcher out and help these guys.”
He added: “These guys are non-venomous, they are a constrictor but their main food source is your birds, your rat and mice so if you;re not in that list you’re kinda pretty safe. The season is upon us and people are going to come across snakes in weird and wonderful places and most of all how to react when you come across situations like we have here.”
Although summer is still months away that hasn’t stopped snakes from getting out and about with a snake catcher leaving social media baffled last month as they tried to figure out where a sneaky snake was hiding on a Queensland resident’s back deck. Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers took to Facebook last week with one of its popular “spot the snake” games after startled homeowners discovered the python lounging about outside.
In the post, snake catcher Stu uploaded a snap of the decking area, showing a comfy looking couch and dining table and asked fans to guess where the sneaky snake was hiding. “Yes it’s that time again for another game of ‘Spot the Snake’,” he wrote alongside the image. “Extra points if you can name the species. Have some fun with it and tag a few friends in the comments and see how they go finding it!”

The picture had plenty of followers admitting defeat, with many commenting to say they were unable to spot it and some even claiming they could see the snake under the table and in the kitchen through the window. Can you spot it?
“Omg love this game! I’ve never seen the snake in any of them hahaha but I try,” one commentator wrote. Another added: “I’m guessing at the back of the cushions but I’m usually wrong. Not very good at spotting snakes unless they’re moving!” While a third wrote: “And that is why I don’t sit on my back patio until my husband has checked under each chair and each cushion.”

In a follow-up post, Stu gave a bit more detail and a close-up image to show the snake’s very well-hidden location. It may take a bit of squinting, but the reptile is actually lying behind the couch with a small part of its body seen behind the cushions. “Coastal Carpet Python on the back of the sun lounge,” the snake catcher wrote on the post. “Congrats to all those who got it correct!”
