On what would have been Princess Diana’s 63rd birthday, Sarah Ferguson delivered a heartfelt tribute to her “dear friend”, reminiscing about the good times they shared while reflecting on Diana’s lasting legacy.

Taking to Instagram, Ferguson penned the moving tribute on July 1 with a throwback photo of the pair standing together on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on September 15, 1990 as they watched the Battle of Britain Anniversary Parade.

“Happy birthday to my dear friend, Diana. You were a pillar of light and love. And what a legacy you have left behind,” she began.

“I will forever remember our laughter and the kindred, kind spirit I found in you. I am sure you are watching over us always.

“Rest in peace my friend.”

Much like Ferguson, fans of Diana across the world took to social media to share their own treasured memories of the beloved People’s Princess.

Princess Diana sadly died on August 31, 1997, following a tragic car accident in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. The crash, which also claimed the lives of her companion Dodi Al Fayed and driver Henri Paul, sent shockwaves across the globe.

The outpouring of grief was unprecedented, with millions of people mourning her loss. Flowers, cards, and tributes filled the streets outside Kensington Palace, and a sea of floral tributes blanketed the palace gates.

The nation and the world watched in collective sorrow as her funeral was broadcast live, drawing an estimated 2.5 billion viewers globally.
