Compared to her cousins Prince William and Prince Harry, Zara Tindall grew up away from the media storm that surrounds the royal family and enjoyed a much more down to earth upbringing thanks to her mother Princess Anne who declined the monarch’s offer of HRH titles for her two children.

As a result, the 38-year-old granddaughter of Her Majesty the Queen rarely attends public engagements alongside her world-famous family and instead only makes an appearance for private events such as weddings and christenings, or important dates such as Trooping the Colour which marks the Queen’s birthday each June.

Zara was also able to forge a career for herself as a talented equestrian and she was pictured alongside her mother the Princess Royal on Tuesday as the duo attended day one of the Cheltenham Festival, of which Zara is a non executive director.

The mother-of-two, whose youngest daughter was born in 2018, looked extremely stylish for the day at the races as she dressed in navy from head to toe. Zara wrapped up against the chilly British weather in an elegant woollen double-breasted coat and a pair of knee-high black suede boots.

She completed the simple yet sophisticated ensemble with a small leather saddle-style handbag in a similar shade of dark blue, along with an intricate feathered headband, while the top of her navy and white polka dot dress could also be seen poking out at the collar.

Her mother Princess Anne, 69, who is famed for recycling her clothes over decades, opted for a far more vibrant colour scheme, wrapping up in a bright orange coat and a peach woollen scarf which she draped over her shoulders.

The only daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip then added a touch of glamour to her race day outfit and sported a brown fur hat, which was held in place with hair pins, and a pair of classic pearl stud earrings.

Zara’s brother Peter Phillips was also in attendance on day one of the four-day horse racing festival, along with his estranged wife Autumn Phillips. The outing is the first time the couple have been pictured together since they announced they were set to divorce last month.

The couple, who share daughters Savannah, nine, and Isla, seven, together, looked perfectly comfortable in each other’s company at Cheltenham as they chatted to one another and laughed, while Peter was later seen celebrating and throwing his arms into the air, suggesting he might have had a successful punt.

Anne and Zara were pictured studying the programme at the event, and also spent time with Zara’s godfather Andrew Parker-Bowles, who is also the former husband of Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, who is now happily married to Zara’s uncle the Prince of Wales.

The Princess Royal is rumoured to have been romantically involved with Parker-Bowles in the past, prior to his marriage to Camilla.
