Meghan’s estranged father Thomas Markle has broken his silence on being snubbed from his grandson Archie’s christening.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday, the retired television director, who infamously made headlines after staging paparazzi pictures prior to his daughter’s wedding to Prince Harry last year, said he would have enjoyed being at the celebration, as he’s been a member of the Anglican Church since childhood.

“I have been asked if I would have liked to have gone to Britain to see my new grandson being christened,” he said, from his home in Rosarito Beach, Mexico.

“I was an altar boy at age 12, a confirmed member of the Queen’s church at age 14, and Archie is my new grandson, so of course I would have enjoyed being there for the blessing, wishing Archie and his parents health and happiness.”

The rocky relationship between the pair has sadly played out in the public eye ever since Thomas set up a series of paparazzi shots ahead of his daughter’s wedding, which he was then forced to pull out of at the last minute after reportedly suffering a heart attack.

In February this year the tension between the two was launched into the spotlight once again as Thomas shared extracts from a heartbreaking five-page letter – which was allegedly written by the Duchess of Sussex herself.

Thomas’ comments come after Prince Harry and Meghan shared two stunning photos from their baby son Archie Harrison’s christening on Sunday.

While the couple opted to keep the ceremony in a Windsor Castle chapel completely secret, they have since shared photos inside the castle’s Green Drawing Room to celebrate.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pictured surrounded by proud grandparents Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, as well as Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, while Prince William and Catherine joined them for the official photo too.

In a special nod to Harry’s late mother Princess Diana, her two sisters Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale also joined them for the photo.

Harry and Meghan also shared a photo with their son outside on the day, as he appeared to be fast asleep in his mother’s arms.

Sharing a special message with their followers, the couple thanked the public for their ongoing support on their official Instagram page.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son,” the message read.

“They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment. Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie.”
