Royal fans were delighted this week as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge treated the public to two adorable new photographs of their eldest son Prince George to mark his seventh birthday on July 22. The sweet portraits were taken by George’s mum Catherine in the grounds of their home Anmer Hall on the Queen’s Sandringham Estate.

So, to celebrate the third-in-line to the throne turning seven, we’ve compiled a series of photographs of other senior royals when they were the same age as the young prince! Can you see the family resemblance?

Her Majesty the Queen

There’s no denying who this adorable little princess is – as the Queen is understandably one of the most photographed women on the planet. This sweet black-and-white photo shows a young Princess Elizabeth riding in a carriage alongside her uncle King Edward VIII as they return from church during a visit to Balmoral. Edward later abdicated his throne in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson, propelling the Queen’s father onto the throne and paving the way for the longest-serving monarch of all time.

Prince Charles

As the future king, Prince Charles was raised in the public eye and so photographs like this one have been shared widely throughout his life. This black-and-white photograph was taken in the grounds of Balmoral Castle, Scotland and was the prince’s official seventh birthday portrait – and that’s a Balmoral tartan kilt he is wearing too!

Princess Diana

Lady Diana Spencer looks just like her eldest son the Duke of Cambridge in this adorable childhood photograph. The snap was taken in 1968 at the Spencer family home in Berkshire. Diana, who would go on to become the ‘People’s Princess’ upon her marriage to Prince Charles, is pictured with her younger brother Earl Spencer.

Recently, royal watchers have compared Princess Diana to her granddaughter Princess Charlotte, commenting that the pair look exactly alike as youngsters! Following Prince Louis’ christening in 2018, royal fans couldn’t help but notice the three-year-old bears a remarkable resemblance to her late grandmother, Princess Diana.

“Wow, I had not realised they looked so much alike,” one commentator wrote on social media. Another added: “I have been saying — for a while now — that Charlotte is going to look a lot more like Diana than anyone thinks”.

Princess Anne

As the Queen’s only daughter, Princess Anne was never destined for the throne but the Princess Royal has become one of the most beloved members of the firm thanks to her hard-working nature and thrifty attitude. This sweet photograph was taken in X and shows the confident young princess waving enthusiastically at the camera as she leaves Princess Anne leaves Buckingham Palace for Balmoral with her mother Queen Elizabeth in August 1957.

Prince William and Prince Harry

The sons of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana are two of the most recognisable members of royalty in the world, due to their appeal to both young and old royal-watchers – not to mention, the widespread love and continued mourning for their mother. With his striking red hair, there’s no denying who the cheeky little prince on the left is, and we think Prince William looks just like his mum when she was young with his blonde locks.

The photograph of Harry was taken during a visit to Niagara Falls in Canada, while the photograph of Prince William was taken during The Beating Retreat Parade At The Orangery, Kensington Palace.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall

The Duchess of Cornwall only became royalty upon her marriage to Prince Charles in 2005, but she has known the Windsors for much longer than that. This photograph of Camilla Shand, as she was known before marriage, was taken during the 1955/56 school year and is currently on display at the Ditchling Museum in East Sussex. We don’t think she’s changed a bit!

Zara Tindall

Zara’s mother Princess Anne made the decision not to bestow royal titles upon her children, allowing Zara and brother Peter to live relatively normal lives. In this photograph a beaming Zara can be seen laughing with friends at the Windsor Horse Trials. Little did she know at the time, but she would go on to become a successful equestrian, even bagging a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London!

Peter Phillips

Reportedly the Queen’s favourite grandson, Peter Phillips looks like butter wouldn’t melt in this adorable snap taken at the Windsor Horse Show. Having never held a royal title, Peter and sister Zara have never been considered ‘working royals’ and have therefore been able to forge lives largely away from the public eye. Peter, who shares two daughters Savannah, nine, and Isla, eight, with estranged wife Autumn, now runs his own sports management company, which he founded in 2012.
