Despite decades of hard partying and high-energy performances, rock legend Rod Stewart now acknowledges that the party must eventually come to an end, recognising that his “days are numbered”.

Yet, despite this introspection, the rock icon has no plans to slow down and is determined to make the most of the years he has left.

During a recent interview with The Sun, Stewart shared his candid thoughts on life and what the future holds.

“I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear,” he said.

“We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket.

“I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.

“I say few — probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”

Despite getting older, Stewart admits he still “goes mad” with the booze after each show but acknowledges that he has toned it down somewhat since his heyday.

“I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s and I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that,” he said.

“Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show.

“The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it. But no, you think I just have water on my rider?

“You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it.”

After such an impressive career and exciting life, one might wonder if there’s anything more the Maggie May hitmaker wants to tick off his bucket list. However, as he approaches 80, he reveals that he is perfectly content.

“I have had a good time and a good life and I’ve enjoyed myself, so I wouldn’t ask for anything more,” he said.

“Probably good health and good health for my children and happiness . . . and Celtic doing well.”

Although Stewart is pleased with where he is in life, the 79-year-old has no intention of taking his foot off the pedal when it comes to his music career.

“I don’t see any possibility of slowing down anytime soon,” he recently told HELLO!

“And as I get older, I only really want to do things that give me great pleasure.”
