Entertainment legend Dick Van Dyke was forced to cancel a recent appearance at the last minute due to health concerns.
The 99-year-old Mary Poppins star was scheduled to co-host “Vandy Camp” alongside his wife, Arlene Silver on Saturday, June 28. However, Silver addressed the audience, apologising for her husband’s absence.
“I have to inform you that Dick is not up to coming to celebrate with us today. I’m sorry,” she told those in attendance, as per People magazine.
“When you’re 99 and a half years old, you have good days and bad days … and unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and he’s sick that he can’t be here.”
Despite his absence, Silver was “pretty confident” Van Dyke will return for the next Vandy Camp event “in person.”
His recent health woes aside, Van Dyke is determined to make it to his 100th birthday and recently shared how he plans to get there, revealing that he still goes to the gym three days a week.
Van Dyke was speaking to the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast where he told host Ted Danson he is going to throw a huge party when he hits the milestone later this year.
“When you think, I go back to ’25, I’m almost 100,” he said.
“This is insane. I’m going to have a big party.”
The Mary Poppins star added that he likes to keep active and this is the secret of his youthful outlook.
“Somebody said, ‘to what do you attribute your age and physical condition?’ I said I’ve always exercised,” he admitted.
“Three days a week we go to the gym, still. Three days a week. And I think that’s it – why I’m not stove up like my equals.”
