Movie icon, Mae West once said, “you only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough,” and no one embodies that more than fellow legend Dick Van Dyke.
The beloved Hollywood star is already looking forward to his 100th birthday and shared with fans how he plans to get there, revealing that he still goes to the gym three days a week.
Van Dyke was speaking to the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast where he told host Ted Danson he is going to throw a huge party when he hits the milestone later this year.
“When you think, I go back to ’25, I’m almost 100,” he said.
“This is insane. I’m going to have a big party.”
The Mary Poppins star added that he likes to keep active and this is the secret of his youthful outlook.
“Somebody said, ‘to what do you attribute your age and physical condition?’ I said I’ve always exercised,” he admitted.
“Three days a week we go to the gym, still. Three days a week. And I think that’s it – why I’m not stove up like my equals.”
However, Van Dyke attributes his staying power to mixing things up at the gym and said he “literally” dances between weight machines instead of walking.
Van Dyke’s uplifting update could not come sooner for fans as the entertainment legend recently revealed he narrowly escaped the Los Angeles fires.
Just days before his 99th birthday, wildfires forced him and his wife, Arlene, to flee their Malibu home.
Speaking about the terrifying ordeal, Van Dyke revealed he had to be carried to safety by neighbours.
“It was coming from the hill, you could see it. And oh my God, and we got out of here. I was trying to crawl to the car, I had exhausted myself, I couldn’t get up,” he told the TODAY show.
“Three neighbours came and carried me out and came back and put out a little fire in the guest house and saved me.”
Van Dyke later reassured fans on Facebook that he and Arlene were safe following the fire, thanking his neighbours for their heroic efforts.
