Fans of rock legend Bruce Springsteen can rest assured that they’ll be enjoying his iconic hits for many more years after the Born to Run hitmaker emphatically shut down retirement rumours.
During a recent performance in Philadelphia, Springsteen told those in attendance that he “ain’t going anywhere” and that there will be “no farewell tour bullsh*t” in the coming years.
“We’ve been around for 50 f**king years and we ain’t quitting,” Springsteen told concertgoers.
“We ain’t doing no farewell tour bullsh*t. No farewell tour for the E Street Band.
“Farewell to what? Thousands of people screaming your name?
“Yeah, I wanna quit that.”
Springsteen’s reassurance will no doubt be music to the ears of fans who had grown concerned when the iconic rocker was forced to cancel a number of live performances due to health issues in 2023 and early 2024.
The 74-year-old icon had disclosed his health concerns in a message posted on his official website and social media channels at the time, revealing that he and The E Street Band had made the decision to postpone all performances for September 2023 as Springsteen received treatment for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease.
“Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” he told fans at the time.
“First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our U.S. shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”
Although the initial delay was intended to be brief, the shows faced an extended hiatus with Springsteen later announcing he would not be returning to the stage with the E Street Band until 2024.
“Bruce Springsteen has continued to recover steadily from peptic ulcer disease over the past few weeks and will continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor’s advice,” the update read.
“With this in mind, and out of an abundance of caution, all remaining 2023 tour dates for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will be postponed until 2024.”
