‘Miss you every single day’: Patti Newton delivers heartwarming birthday message for ‘darling’ Bert

On what would have been Bert Newton’s 86th birthday, his beloved wife Patti has taken to social media to deliver a heartwarming message to the late entertainment icon.

Patti posted a photo of Bert surrounded by his grandchildren on Tuesday, July 23 alongside a caption in which she shared her hope that her beloved husband is “having a great time” while reflecting on how much his family misses him.

“To my darling Bert, Happy Birthday hope you’re having a great time you have so many wonderful friends up there with you,” she wrote.

“We all miss you every single day. Love you Mackxxx.”

Fans were quick to wish Bert a happy birthday, sharing how much they missed the beloved entertainer.

“Happy birthday Angel Bert. We envy all the angels that get to laugh at all your jokes,” one wrote.

“We will never forget your beautiful Bert. You both gave us so much entertainment & love.”

“Still miss him on our screens,” commented another.

“Happy birthday Mr Newton. Thank you for giving me belly laughs even when I was an angsty adolescent in the 80’s.”

Although Bert is sadly no longer with us, Patti recently revealed how she keeps the spirit of her late husband alive and well.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Australia, Patti revealed the piece of jewellery that goes with her everywhere in honour of Bert.

“It’s a bit of a secret, but [it says] Bert, and he travels everywhere with me,” she revealed.

“I love it. I feel as though he’s with me.”

Patti went on to share that the necklace is just one of many items she carries with her, each holding a special place in her heart.

“I have quite a few things that I have on me that belonged to Bert,” she explained.

“He’ll always be part of me.”

Bert passed away on October 30, 2021 at age 83 after a long health battle, he was undergoing palliative care at a private clinic in Melbourne when he died. Both the Australian public and the entertainment world mourned the showbiz legend during a state funeral.

Born in 1938, Bert quickly discovered his love of entertainment at a young age with his radio debut on 3XY at age 11. From the early 1960s to the late 1990s he was the face of a number of popular TV shows, including The Late Show, In Melbourne Tonight, The Don Lane Show, The Bert Newton Show and Tonight with Bert Newton.
