“It’s wonderful to be here, it’s certainly a thrill, you’re such a lovely audience, we’d like to take you home with us.”

As they quoted lyrics from Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band, four young actors were introduced as the stars of the upcoming Beatles movies that will tell the band’s story from each member’s perspective.

Appearing at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the movie’s stars Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Harris Dickinson and Joseph Quinn were joined by their director Sam Mendes, who said the movies will be a “bingeable moment in cinema”.

Set for a 2028 release, the hotly anticipated project will see Dickinson star as the late John Lennon, Mescal as Paul McCartney, while Keoghan will play Ringo Starr and Quinn will play the late George Harrison.

The British director revealed it took more than a year to shoot all four movies but did not confirm in which order they would be released, as the story was “too big” for one movie, while a television series didn’t seem right.

The long time fan and American Beauty director said he had dreamed of the project for years but it took a long time to work out how he would film the “most significant band of all time” who had “redefined the culture” of popular music.

“I had been trying to do a film for years, but I finally gave up (because the) story was too big for one film,” Mendes said.

Thankfully, the project has met the approval of both Lennon and Harrison’s families, as well as surviving members McCartney and Starr, which is no small feat, considering it’s the first time a scripted film will have full rights to the band’s extensive back catalogue.

In particular, Ringo Starr is looking forward to the project’s release and is excited to see how the movie project works out.

In a previous interview, Starr revealed he is curious to see how Mendes will approach the project, and said it was “madness” to make four movies at the same time.

“My life as a lad, John’s life, Paul’s life, George’s life, I mean, it must interact in some way,” he said via People magazine.

“There’ll be Beatles in mine around when I joined, and there’ll be Beatles in Paul’s. We’ll all be there. So I’m excited to see what he does with it.”
