King Charles has privately written to former U.S. President Joe Biden to offer his support following Biden’s diagnosis with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Charles, who is currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, extended his heartfelt wishes after learning of Biden’s condition.

The 81-year-old former president was diagnosed on Friday, with medical tests confirming that the cancer has spread to his bones.

On Monday, Biden broke his silence with a message on social media, thanking the public for their compassion and encouragement.

“Cancer touches us all,” he wrote

“Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

The relationship between Charles and Biden has been warm and respectful. The King hosted Biden for tea and talks at Windsor Castle in July 2023, with a royal spokesman noting the meeting was “extremely cordial.”

Their connection stretches back further: Biden attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, and in 2021, he and Charles—then the Prince of Wales—held a bilateral meeting during the COP26 summit in Glasgow.

When Charles publicly revealed his own cancer diagnosis in 2024, Biden responded with concern and solidarity.

“I’m concerned about him. Just heard about his diagnosis. I’ll be talking to him, God willing,” Biden told reporters at the time.

He later tweeted: “Navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship takes hope and absolute courage.”

Last week, the King spoke candidly about his own cancer treatment saying he would like to think he is on the “better side” of his journey.

The 76-year-old monarch spoke to florist Safeena Khan about his health, during a visit to Bradford to celebrate its status as the UK’s City of Culture.

Khan told MailOnline: “He asked me how I was, and I asked him how he was. There was some pleasantries towards the end, but it was a lovely conversation.”

The florist added that Charles gave her a “thumbs up” when she asked about his health and told her: “I’d like to think I’m on the better side (of my cancer journey)”.
