Hollywood star Kate Hudson has enjoyed a successful acting career, co-hosted a podcast and launched her own line of vodka and workout clothes.
Now she’s branching out into music, having released her debut album in 2024, following it up with an extended version titled Glorious (Deluxe).
Speaking on the Graham Norton Show, the Almost Famous star discussed the extra tracks on the album including Ride On Time, a heartfelt tribute to her mother Goldie Hawn.
The 45-year-old actress admitted her mother did not know what to make of the song but was soon moved when she understood it was a tribute to her.
“I think she was confused at first but when I told her it was about her childhood, she was very emotional,” she said.
“You become the keeper of your parents’ stories so to be able to share it with the world is wonderful.
“It honours my mum.”
Later in the show, Hudson explained why it took so long to release an album, saying that she thought she was “too old” to start a music career.
“I finally took the leap and made a record,” she said.
“There was a moment during the COVID lockdown when we all thought we were going to die so I thought about my creative output and realised I had to do some music no matter what.”
While this career shift may surprise some, Hudson comes from a musical background. Raised by her mother, Hawn, and her partner, Kurt Russell, Hudson’s biological father is Bill Hudson, lead singer of the ’70s pop band The Hudson Brothers.
Despite this musical heritage, Hudson was primarily raised around actors, which led her to follow her parents into the family business, eventually establishing herself as an award-winning actress.
Over the years, she has continued to support her family’s endeavors, appearing on her brother Oliver Hudson’s podcast and serving as a board member for her mother’s MindUp charity.
Hawn and Hudson are well-known for their performances in a number of noteworthy films and TV programs, having both pursued successful acting careers. Hawn is well known for her performances in Cactcus Flower (1969), First Wives Club (1997) and Bird on a Wire (1990), among many other hit films.
Hudson is best known for her roles in Almost Famous (2000) How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), and Bride Wars (2009).
