Julie Bishop turns heads in dazzling skin-tight black ‘revenge dress’

Breakups are tough, but it seems as though Julie Bishop has taken a page out of Princess Diana’s book when it comes to living your best life post-relationship and post-politics.

The 66-year-old was turning heads as she arrived at the David Jones Spring/ Summer 2022 fashion collection in Sydney, on Wednesday, August 10, following her sudden split with her partner of eight years, David Panton.

The former Foreign Minister turned mining adviser looked absolutely breathtaking as she arrived at the venue wearing a metallic Balmain long-sleeved mini-dress.

The figure-hugging jacquard style number features the French brand’s latest monogram design down the middle of the dress and down its sleeves.

This dress offers a retro-futuristic look with its strong-shouldered silhouette and its chainmail-like pattern.

Bishop teamed the dress with sheer black stockings, black suede pointed-toed heels, and a black leather purse with a silver metallic handle.

For make-up the modern-day fashion icon kept things simple, going for a “barely-there” make-up look that featured black kohl liner around her eyes and a swipe of glossy nude lipstick.

Bishop’s hair was also glamorously styled, as she debuted a shorter side-swept blonde bob.

Fans and famous faces were quick to flood Bishop’s Instagram page with comments gushing over the former politician’s look.

Pip Edwards from Aussie activewear brand PE Nation commented, “You stunner” while Sunrise entertainment reporter Nelson Aspen commented “Va va va Voom!!”

Other users said: “Seriously should be up there on the catwalk.”

One user even remarked that Bishop’s dress was similar to Princess Diana’s off-the-shoulder, black cocktail dress which is popularly known as her “revenge” dress, which she wore for her first public event after she and Prince Charles split up.

“Is that like Diana‘s revenge dress?” they said.

Bishop’s appearance at the David Jones fashion show comes after she shared photos of herself on Instagram attending the Perth mining conference on July 11, a little over a week after her breakup with Panton.

According to WA Today, Panton initiated the breakup during a dinner at Eastbank restaurant on Sydney’s Macquarie Street on July 5.

Panton later confirmed the breakup in a statement to The Sydney Morning Herald, revealing the couple would be going their separate ways.

“I’m going to be focused on living in Manly and Melbourne for the foreseeable future,” Panton said.

“I wish Julie all the best in her ongoing stellar career.”

When asked about how single life had been treating her, Bishop told Confidential: “I’m very busy.”

“I spend a lot of time at the ANU as chancellor, I’m doing a lot of speaking engagements and attending fabulous events like the David Jones launch.”

Bishop was accompanied by singer Vera Blue, model Natalie Roser and activewear entrepreneur Pip Edwards at the David Jones show.
