Jimmy Barnes unveils major new music project as he continues recovery from surgery

As Jimmy Barnes continues his recovery from recent hip surgery, the legendary singer has thrilled fans with the announcement of his upcoming album and nationwide tour.

The Defiant Tour will take place in June 2025, celebrating the release of Barnes’ 21st studio album, Defiant, set to drop on June 6 via Mushroom Music.

The 6-date Australian tour will see Barnes performing in Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra, joined by his 9-piece band to bring the new album to life on stage.

Ahead of the tour, fans can look forward to the release of two singles, New Day and Beyond the River Bend, the latter of which is inspired by Barnes’ family home in New South Wales.

Barnes took to social media to share his excitement for the new album and the upcoming national tour.

“I’m really happy to announce my new album DEFIANT and a national tour,” he began.

“You’ll be able to listen to first new music from the record tomorrow morning – a double A-side featuring ‘New Day’ and ‘Beyond the River Bend’.  Pre-order the album, via link in bio.

“To celebrate the release of the new album, I’ll be hitting the road with my 9-piece band for the DEFIANT TOUR this June. I’m so proud of these songs – they mean a lot to me, and I can’t wait to share them with you live.

“I’ll be kicking things off in Adelaide before heading to Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra. If you’ve been to one of my shows before, you know we don’t hold back – and this one will be no different.”

Following the announcement, fans eagerly shared their excitement, marvelling at Barnes’ ability to keep pushing forward without slowing down.

Barnes’ announcement follows his return home after his recent hospital stay, where he expressed heartfelt thanks to those who supported him throughout his recovery.

“I can’t tell you how great it is to be home, to sleep in my own bed,” he began.

“Thank you to the medical teams at St Vincent’s and St Luke’s hospitals who have got me back on my own two feet. My @jane13barnes who’s been by my side the entire time. You guys cheering me on. Waiting for me at home was The Saints’ box set, a gift from Ed Kuepper, I can’t wait to play it.
