Jimmy Barnes ‘grateful’ to be back home after latest round of surgery

Iconic Aussie rocker Jimmy Barnes is back home and feeling grateful after undergoing hip surgery, marking a major milestone in his recovery.

After facing significant health challenges in 2024, Barnes recently announced that he was returning to hospital yet again to undergo further hip surgery, but reassured fans that it was “actually good news”.

“Hey everyone, I’ve got some news to share with you. My incredible doctors have cleared me to go back in next week to have my hip replaced with a permanent joint,” he said at the time.

“I’m obviously not looking forward to more surgery but this is actually good news. I’d like to apologise in advance to my darling Jane who’s going to be back in nursing mode for the next few weeks (I’m not a great patient if you didn’t know).

“The temporary hip that I had in there for the past few months did its job, and it got me through the amazing Cold Chisel “The Big Five-0” Tour.

“I’d like to thank the very talented physios who strapped me up like I was in a grand final every night. That got me through the shows.

“I’ve got another big year coming up, and this new hip will have me stomping around the stage before you can say 1, 2, 3, 4.

“See you on the road.”

Now, in a new social media update, Barnes expressed his excitement to be home following his hospital stay and offered heartfelt thanks to those who supported him along the way.

“I can’t tell you how great it is to be home, to sleep in my own bed,” he began.

“Thank you to the medical teams at St Vincent’s and St Luke’s hospitals who have got me back on my own two feet. My @jane13barnes who’s been by my side the entire time. You guys cheering me on. Waiting for me at home was The Saints’ box set, a gift from Ed Kuepper, I can’t wait to play it.

“Support at every turn, I’m grateful.”

Fans were elated to see Barnes back home and on the mend, many wishing him all the best in his ongoing recovery.

“So happy to hear your home, nothing better than your own bed,” one wrote.

“Great news!”

“Well done Jimmy! Being home is the best medicine and onwards & upwards!” commented another.

“You look healthy Jimmy!”

“Welcome home, never better than being surrounded by family love and support.”

It should come as no surprise that Barnes is making leaps and bounds in his recovery. In a recent video update shared by his wife, Jane Mahoney, Barnes was seen walking with crutches just days after surgery.

“Day 3 post hip op milestones. Our Scottish patient is walking with crutches today,” she wrote alongside the video.

“Jimmy is free of his hospital gown, this seems to make him more happy than anything. We’re just lying around listening to records, sipping berry shakes.

“The healing progress has been as good as it can be and we want to keep it that way. The Drs know that Jimmy has a tendency to rush things so it’s been decided that he will spend some extra days in hospital rehab before we go home.”
