The Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book is a staple in most Aussie households, and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t tucked into one of the tasty creations over the years. And it seems the book is just as popular across the ditch too as New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern whipped up one of the recipes for her daughter’s birthday.

Ardern and partner Clarke Gayford celebrated their daughter Neve Te Aroha’s second birthday on Sunday and the prime minister took to social media to share an image of the impressive homemade cake she made for the special day. She selected the piano design, which uses blocks of white chocolate and licorice straps to make the keys.

“Cake making lesson number two- don’t focus on making the cake look in proportion with little to no attention on structural integrity….there is a jar of lentils propping this thing up,” the prime minister wrote on Instagram.

“Happy Birthday Neve! Thanks for ignoring all of the imperfections in life and just being a joy.”

Fans were impressed by Ardern’s efforts, with many in awe of her ability to find time to bake a cake whilst running a country. One wrote: “Happy birthday Neve. Beautiful cake Mum.” Another commented: “You run a country and still have time to make your daughters birthday cake? You truly are amazing!”

Another follower wrote: “This is awesome! Find a PM that can do it all.” While another said: “Prime minister of NZ and still able to bake cakes….. Are you sure you’re not SuperWoman.”

Earlier this year, Neve made a rare public appearance with her mother as she celebrated Waitangi Day on New Zealand’s North Island. Ardern took Neve to work with her as she attended a series of poignant events to mark the country’s national day.

The adorable blonde toddler was photographed tucking into a sausage that had been barbecued by her mother as she helped to serve up breakfast to 1,000 members of the public. She was also pictured enjoying a moment of peace with her busy mother, as Ardern held her young daughter close to her.
