Royal fans have long hoped that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would set aside their differences with the Royal Family and reconcile—perhaps not for their own sake, but for the sake of their children.
Now, one royal expert suggests that a recent decision by the couple could be a sign that reconciliation might one day be possible.
Since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have remained estranged from their family across the pond.
Adding to the tensions were revelations made in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where Harry and Meghan candidly discussed their struggles within the royal institution.
This was followed by the release of Harry’s candid memoir and a series of interviews in which he continued to criticise The Firm.
Amid the seemingly endless divide, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has offered a glimmer of hope, suggesting that tensions might finally be easing.
In a recent interview with OK Magazine, Bond shared her theory that Harry and Meghan’s recent purchase of a property in Portugal could be their way of bridging the gap with the Royal Family, providing an opportunity for their children to spend more time with their royal cousins.
“It can only be good for the children to mix with at least some of their royal cousins,” she said.
“How curious and sad it will be for Archie and Lilibet if they grow up knowing they are part of one of the most famous families in the world.
“The Portugal house does suggest that Harry and Meghan want the children to experience European culture, and get to know Eugenie’s kids.
“Perhaps we shall finally see some pictures of the Sussex brood, playing with their cousins.
“It may well be that with Donald Trump back in the White House, Harry and Meghan might spend more time in their Portugal house, at least in the school holidays.
“By now, they must be steeped in the Californian way of life and sound like proper little Americans.”
If Harry and Meghan’s recent property purchase signals a desire for their children to build a stronger connection with the Royal Family, it could not come at a better time given royal commentator Lydia Alty’s recent comments about the “damage” Harry and Meghan’s feud is having on their children.
“Where it will likely do the most damage, would be to Prince Harry’s own children, Archie and Lilibet,” Alty told GB News.
“I expect they barely know any of their wider family but Meghan’s mother’s family.
“This means they are likely being barred from their family.
“They are going to never get to know their cousins or their paternal grandfather, uncle and aunt and that can seriously affect a child, especially if their parents continue to burn bridges with the royals.”
