Sixty years ago, a young Welsh singer named Tom Jones released a song that would not only make him a household name but would also launch a successful music career that has spanned decades.
On Friday, January 31, Jones took to social media to reflect on âwhat a ride itâs beenâ since releasing the hit single Itâs Not Unusual in 1965, sharing a clip of him performing the beloved song on the 1960s TV show, This Is Tom Jones.
â60 years ago I released Itâs Not Unusual, and what a ride itâs been!â he began.
âBack then I would never have believed this one tune would have led on to such a wonderful life and career, full of music, fantastic people and touring all over the world.
âNone of this would have been possible without the enduring support from my fans from day one, so thank you, you are sincerely loved and appreciated.
âTo celebrate, Iâd like to share a rare performance of the song from my sixties TV show THIS IS TOM JONES, which is you can enjoy now on my YouTube channel. Check it out, itâs great fun to see the style and energy of those times. So hereâs to music, the stage and YOU! â

Jonesâ trip down memory lane sparked a wave of fans sharing their love for the hit song and reminiscing about their favourite memories tied to the single.
âFabulous Voice! I love this song so much!â one wrote.
âI actually watched this when I was 10 years old! Like many, a forever fan. You are an amazing voice and itâs thrilling to see how far youâve come. Prayers for many more years of great music.â
âIconic tune. Love it. Sung by a legend,â commented another.
âStill the best voice out there!â
Jones has gone from strength to strength following the release of Itâs Not Unusual, dominating the charts with a string of hits over the years
Recently, the legendary crooner reflected on his successful, decades-long career, expressing disbelief that he is still able to sing well on stage after so many years.
âWhen I am singing I am like, âHow the hell is this coming out of me?â Honestly,â he told The Mirror.
âIf the voice was not there I am sure I would be going, âUrgh, I donât want to do so many showsâ but I love it as the voice is still working!â
âThe only way [I would retire] is if I couldnât sing any more,â he told Metro.
âIf something went wrong with my vocal ability, I wouldnât want to go on not in full strength. I wouldnât like to shortchange an audience.â
