As British pop sensation Sir Cliff Richard prepares to wow fans with his upcoming Can’t Stop Me Now tour, the 84-year-old has admitted that his days on stage may be numbered.
In a concerning admission, Sir Cliff revealed that he may give up touring soon as he reflected on his mortality.
“The thing I would have to give up probably at some time is touring. It’s very wearing, and you never know when you wake up in the morning whether your voice is still there,” he told a New Zealand radio station, as reported by The Mirror.
“I might be dead the next year! So I don’t even think about it anymore. It’s one of those things. As I get older maybe I’ll become less able to perform, so I can’t say.”
His comments follow the announcement of Australia and New Zealand dates for his Can’t Stop Me Now tour in 2025.
Billed as “a once-in-a-lifetime experience”, fans will be offered a rare opportunity to witness one of music’s all-time greats perform timeless classics such as We Don’t Talk Anymore and Devil Woman.
Sir Cliff used his birthday on Monday, October 14 last year to announce the upcoming show, telling fans he couldn’t wait to begin his tour Down Under.
“I am delighted to announce that I’m going to be on tour again in 2025 to celebrate my 85th birthday,” he began.
“You can’t stop me now because I’m going to be, on the 1st of November, back in Australia and New Zealand.”
Sir Cliff’s announcement received a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm from adoring fans, many expressing how they can’t wait to see him perform again.
During his impressive career, Sir Cliff has sold over 250 million records worldwide, securing his place among the best-selling artists of all time.
Outside of music, he earned a knighthood in 1995 for his charity work, making him the first pop star ever to receive such an honour.
