His new show Games of Games kicks off on Ten tonight, and while he’s happier than ever, it hasn’t been an easy year for the former Family Feud star.
Grant Denyer, 41, has revealed that Network Ten almost announced his death on live TV, after suffering a near-fatal car crash last year. The presenter said on the Rusty’s Garage podcast, on Thursday, that there were reports he had died in a rally car crash.
“The first word out was that I’d died. Channel 10 were getting word from emergency services that I had been in an accident and I was killed,” Denyer said about the crash at the Lake Mountain sprint, which was part of the Australian Rally Championships.

“They were debating whether to talk about it. I know Matthew White [Network Ten news presenter] was facing the decision of, do we announce this right now live on television or not?” said the father-of-two.
Luckily, he only sustained bruising to his lower back while his co-driver, Dale Moscatt, suffered a broken leg. “It was frightening … The car just left the road and I wasn’t able to bring it back on.”
And it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the former Sunrise weather reporter. Denyer recently opened up on the moment doctors told him his organs were functioning at just seven per cent and he was risking killing himself – a result of “chronic fatigue” and exhaustion from his busy job on Sunrise.

Speaking in an exclusive chat with Starts at 60, the Aussie TV favourite has urged others to speak out about personal battles and mental health issues, after he was left fighting serious health concerns due to his work pressure on the Channel 7 show.
“I was knackered. I had bitten off more than I could chew, and trying to juggle too much. It’s one of those things you do in your life when you’re hungry and aggressively trying to climb the ladder and take your career to the next level,” he explained of his role as one of the presenters on Sunrise at the time.
