The world was shocked when Princess Catherine was diagnosed with cancer, but for Prince William, his beloved wife’s health battle left him at his “lowest”, according to a former royal aide.

Jason Knauf, who served as chief executive of William and Catherine’s Royal Foundation before stepping down at the end of 2021, recently opened up about the impact Catherine’s diagnosis had on William.

“Within a couple of weeks, if you’re Prince William, you find out that both your wife and your father have cancer. I couldn’t believe it,” he said in a recent interview with 60 Minutes Australia.

He described a phone call with William regarding Catherine’s health battle, calling it “absolutely awful”.

“It’s the lowest I’ve ever seen him,” he recalled.

He also noted the added stress caused by the spread of conspiracy theories online, questioning whether Catherine was truly ill.

“But the problem was that all this crazy conspiracy theory stuff kicked off in the background, online. ‘Was she really ill?'” he said.

“But they didn’t want to say yet that she had cancer because they hadn’t told the children and they were still working through how to tell the children.”

Fortunately, Catherine overcame her cancer battle and recently shared the joyful news that she had completed her preventative chemotherapy for cancer.

Catherine delivered the uplifting news of her health journey in a heartfelt message on social media, accompanied by a touching video of her with her husband and their three children.

Most recently, Catherine delivered more good news regarding her health battle when she revealed that she is now in remission.

Catherine made the announcement after visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in central London, where she had undergone months of treatment, marking her first solo public engagement since returning to official duties.

Following her visit, Catherine took to social media to express her gratitude to those who cared for her while sharing that she is now focused on recovery and embracing life in remission.

“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,” she began.

“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.

“We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.

“In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. C.”
