The 66 year old Queensland man who died after allegedly having his friend amputate his leg with a circular saw may have suffered from a rare medical disorder, as reported by 7 News.

As part of the investigation, police allege two men drove together to Fitzgerald Park at Innisfail at approximately 4 am on February 19. Shortly after arriving at the park a 36-year-old man allegedly used a circular saw to cut the 66-year-old man’s leg off below the knee. A 36 year old then allegedly assisted the injured man back to the car before leaving the area on foot.

A member of the public discovered the injured man and called emergency services. However, the 66 year old man died a short time later. The accused 36-year-old appeared in Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday, February 21 after being located by police at approximately midday on February 20 at an Innisfail residence. He has been charged with one count of murder.

Police have since alleged the 66-year-old paid the accused $5000 for the amputation of the leg, as reported by the Townsville Bulletin.

The 66 year old’s family recently revealed they believe he may have suffered from undiagnosed body integrity dysphoria.

“He hasn’t been diagnosed with it, but we’re just assuming it was that,” the 66 year old’s daughter said.

“We did some research and it was the left side, it always is the left side, and it’s always below the knee.”

According to the National Library of Medicine, body integrity dysphoria is the “extremely rare phenomenon of persons who desire the amputation of one or more healthy limbs or who desire a paralysis.”

Detective Acting Inspector Gary Hunter told Seven News that investigators believe the incident was an “arrangement” between friends.

“Police will allege these two people were known to each other, the nature of that relationship is forming part of our investigations,” he said.

“Police also believe there was an arrangement between the two people for the amputation of the leg.

“During my 34 years as a police officer I’ve never experienced a situation as we are presented with here today.”

The matter was adjourned to June 6 for mention, the accused was remanded in custody.
