The shocking moment an older man was bashed and then hit by a car in Telopea in Sydney’s north-west has been caught on video.
New South Wales Police said a 30-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 70-year-old man at their family home on The Parade just before 4pm on Sunday.
Footage of the attack obtained by 7News shows the younger man dragging the older man outside onto the nature strip where he begins to kick him in the face. The younger man then briefly leaves the scene in a white car, before returning soon after and attempting to mow down the man with his car. According to NSW Police, the older man was thrown three to four metres by the impact and knocked unconscious.
The younger man then fled on foot, later forcing his way into a home on Honiton Avenue, Carlingford, where he allegedly caused more than $50,000 damage by smashing furniture and a window.
“Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command arrived on scene soon after,” police said. “It is alleged that a struggle ensued where one of the officers was also assaulted during the man’s arrest.”
The man was taken to Chatswood Police Station, where he was charged with attempted murder (DV), break and enter to commit malicious damage, and assault police. He fronted Hornsby Local Court on Tuesday, where he did not apply for bail. He’ll next face Parramatta Local Court on March 25, 7News reports.
Meanwhile, the older man remains in hospital being treated for multiple injuries.
A local resident named Catherine told The Daily Telegraph, “I’ve lived here 11 years, they’ve been here even longer … we’ve seen some funky stuff on this street but they’ve always been a nice family, they keep to themselves. They always say hello when they see us on the street … it’s shocking this would happen.”
