Recently Starts at 60 held a nationwide search for ‘Australia’s Funniest Boomer’.
Among the most memorable finalists competing for the title at Brisbane’s Sit Down Comedy Club, were 61-year-old ventriloquist Dr Glenn Pearce.

The former university lecturer retired from academic life several years ago to run his own entertainment company, Puppets Mean Business.
Other characters in his lineup include Vanessa Goodtoogo (Koala Airlines flight attendant extraordinaire), King Tootencarhorn (the ultimate ‘yummy mummy’), Sashimi (the rare Japanese Talking Goldfish), Little Johnny (the recalcitrant infant), Claude Badly (the ‘friendly’ neighbour), Giddy-up (equine athlete from Kentucky) and Kirkk Effergee (the overindulged millennial voodoo child).
