The last few months have seen star Celine Dion make a triumphant return to performing with her stunning appearance at the Paris Olympics and she shows no signs of slowing down after making an impromptu live performance on American television.
The renowned singer had to step back from the limelight after she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022. The neurological condition had a profound impact on every aspect of her daily life, causing challenges in walking and affecting her ability to use her vocal cords
Now in much better health, Dion burst out a few lines of her biggest hit while chatting with ESPN’s Marty Smith. They were both at the renowned Palm Springs Gardens golf course in Florida for the TGL play offs.
During the live interview, Smith asked her which song from her back catalogue best represented her golf game?
“OK – the one that comes to mind,” she said after consulting with members of the audience.
She then appeared to change her mind after a spectator in the audience suggested she sing My Heart Will Go On.
“I would say, ‘Near… far… wherever….’ Come on,” she sang, imploring those around her to join in.
Smith quickly joined in and they continued to sing more of the song together.
It’s great to see the Queen of the Power Ballads return to the stage after her years-long battle with Stiff Person Syndrome threatened to end her singing career.
During a previous NBC primetime special, Dion opened up about her battle with the neurological condition and her determination to perform once again.
When asked what the disease had taken from Dion, she remained strong and optimistic, expressing her determination to overcome the challenges and continue her musical journey.
“It didn’t take anything away from me. I’m going to go back onstage, even if I have to crawl. Even if I have to talk with my hands, I will. I will,” she explained.
“I am Céline Dion, because today my voice will be heard for the first time, not just because I have to, or because I need to. It’s because I want to and I miss it.”
Dion did just that recently, wowing audiences at the opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics with her rendition of Edith Piaf’s Hymne A L’Amour in 2024.
