Tina Turner’s spectacular theatre production is coming to Australia, delighting fans with the global sensation TINA: The Tina Turner Musical in May 2023

The musical, based on Turner’s life and the events that led her from a modest start in Nutbush, Tennessee to the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll that she is today, will be performed at the Theatre Royal Sydney, produced by TEG Dainty.

The 82-year-old icon said she’s looking forward to being “reunited” with Australia.

“Hello Sydney! I am so excited to be announcing that TINA: The Tina Turner Musical will be opening in Sydney next year,” Turner said.

“Australia has always shared abundant love with me, going back to my early concerts in the late 70s through the uplifting partnership with the National Rugby League.

“It is very special for me that we will be reunited. The joy, passion and message of resilience in my musical is so important now as ever. Thank you from the bottom my heart for welcoming me with open arms once again.”

The Broadway stage production will showcase 23 of Grammy Award winner’s songs, including River Deep – Mountain HighProud Mary, and Aussie favourite, Nutbush City Limits.

Producer Tali Pelman said they’re excited for Australians to be immersed in Turner’s legendary career.

“I know Australia is very close to Tina’s heart, so we are especially excited to announce our opening in Sydney.

“Our musical is about how Tina became not only the music icon we adore but the woman who continues to motivate and inspire us today.

“Everything about Tina is unique – her heart, her story and of course her voice – and we can’t wait for Australians to experience her journey and her triumph through our show.”

Tina: The Tina Turner Musical debuted in London in 2018 and has gone on to receive a total of 37 nominations including the Olivier Awards for Best New Musical and the Tony Awards for Best Musical.

The search for the perfect Australian cast is underway and tickets are yet to be released.
