Who says your best man needs to be human? Not Samantha Armytage, who has revealed her darling dog Banjo was the best man at her wedding to Richard Lavender last year.

The pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on New Year’s Eve at Richard’s property in Bowral in the NSW Southern Highlands. Since then, the Sunrise presenter has been giving fans a glimpse inside her nuptials by sharing a series of photos from the big day on social media.

The new photo shows Sam and her new beau holding hands, as Banjo proudly watches on. The previously unseen photo from her wedding day was shared onto Sam’s Instagram story on Thursday. She had re-posted the image from Banjo’s very own Instagram account, which has more than 8,000 followers.

“Best-man duties,” the adorable post is simply captioned.

Fan’s of Sams were delighted by the sweet photo, with one writing: “Absolutely adorable!! The lovely photo is gorgeous.”

Another added: “I love this pic so much Sam. He really is your best mate. Good work there, Banjo.” While a third wrote: “Oh Banjo how cute.”

The new detail comes just a few weeks after Sam released another set of new photos from her New Year’s Eve wedding. At the time, the journalist shared three new snaps, with the first showing Sam and Richard looking completely loved up as they walked through a paddock hand-in-hand. Another photo showed the newlyweds gazing into each other’s eyes as they stood in the stables of Richard’s property, while a third showed the couple walking side-by-side.

For the bid day, Sam opted for a simple-yet-elegant long-sleeved white frock from Australian designer Carla Zampatti, which fell just above her knees, while her hair was pulled back with a white ribbon. The journalist really played up her accessories, opting for an eye-catching pair of sparkly heels.

The wedding came six months after the couple announced their engagement to the world via Sam’s Instagram page. Two photos were uploaded to her social media of the pair cuddling up together and showing off her sparkling diamond engagement ring. Sam is believed to have met her equestrian businessman husband at Skye Leckie’s 60th birthday party in April 2019, before the pair confirmed their romance in November and were engaged in June the following year.
