Fans of Ray Hadley have been eagerly awaiting updates after the 2GB host was rushed off air on Monday morning following a medical emergency. Now in a new update, 2GB has revealed that the 64-year-old will return to his hosting duties next week.

In a statement, Macquarie Media, which owns the 2GB network, revealed that Hadley was still in hospital but that he would be returning home and to airways soon. The statement read: “Ray’s feeling much better, and will be released from hospital in coming days.”

Listeners will be pleased to know that Hadley is also expected to return to his popular radio show on Monday, with Macquarie Media adding: “His temperature and infection is now under control.”

The radio star revealed live on-air on Monday that he was suffering from another painful bout of diverticulitis, before finishing his show early to rush off to the doctors. He was later admitted to hospital for treatment for the condition, which sees small pockets called diverticula appearing in the wall of the bowel.

People with the condition can experience a range of symptoms ranging from abdominal pain and fever to nausea and a change in bowel habits. Rest is usually the best way to reduce the severity of symptoms, while people are encouraged to eat a low-fibre diet and take antibiotics. More extreme cases require hospital stays and surgery.

The last update on Hadley’s health was Wednesday, when Macquarie Media confirmed the star was still being treated in hospital and that the infection had spread to his blood. They confirmed this was the reason he hadn’t been discharged from hospital.

“Ray was admitted to hospital on Monday after another attack of diverticulitis,” that statement read. “It’s a painful condition that has required treatment in hospital.”

It added: “Unfortunately the infection is now in his blood, so Ray will remain in hospital for now. His specialist is confident the problem can be managed with continuing treatment. Ray sends his thanks to his listeners for their support and well-wishes, and will provide an update on his condition later this week.”

Mark Levy will continue to host The Ray Hadley Morning Show until Hadley returns early next week. The star had previously shared a photo from his hospital bed on Facebook with one of his adorable grandchildren, who he said “wanted to check on her Poppy to make sure he was doing ok”.

Concerned fans have flooded the grandfather’s Facebook page with well-wishes, with one comment reading: “Best wishes for a speedy recovery Ray. I know exactly how you’re feeling. Got same and been in hospital 3 times since Feb this year.. take care.”

Another person said: “Ray, take your health seriously. Get well soon,” while a third added: “Sending you healing prayers.”

The star’s latest health scare is the third time in 12 months he’s been admitted to hospital with diverticulitis. He previously thanked all the people who have shown him concern.
