‘So lucky’: Patti Newton shares photo of ambos treating baby granddaughter

Patti Newton’s granddaughter was taken to The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne on Sunday after suffering an undisclosed illness. The Australian television legend took to her official Instagram page to share a heartbreaking photo of 18-month-old Perla being looked after by ambulance staff.

In the photo, Perla, who’s the youngest daughter of Patti and Bert Newton’s daughter Lauren Newton, could be seen lying on the family couch with wires attached to her chest. Thankfully though, Patti, 75, said in the post that her granddaughter is now ‘back at home and taking it easy’ after the bout of illness.

“Perla wasn’t well, the Ambulance guys were so wonderful as were the Dr and nurses at the Children’s Hospital. She home and taking it easy not serious, so lucky. Thank you @rchmelbourne and @ambulancevic,” the post read.

Commenters sent their well wishes to the family with one writing: “Oh, the poor thing! Glad to hear the ambo’s and staff were amazing. Our healthcare workers are incredible. Sending loads of love to you and the family! I hope Perla is doing well.”

Another worried grandparent wrote: “Wishing Perla a speedy recovery … so hard when our little grandbabies get sick.”

Perla’s mum Lauren shared her own photo of her baby before revealing she was still stuck in hospital due to pregnancy complications. In her post she said it was ‘so hard not to be with her’ but thanked her family for stepping up while she was away.

“Thanks to @ambulancevic and @rchmelbourne for looking after Perla so well,” she wrote. “She is home and doing well now. So hard to not be with her but as usual my amazing family looked after her so well. I can’t wait to be able to cuddle her again.”

Lauren, 40, was admitted to hospital over seven weeks ago due to complications with the birth of her sixth child. She took to Instagram last month to post an adorable throwback of the young family before taking the time to share the sad news that she had been stuck in hospital by herself for five weeks.

“Missing my gorgeous babies,” she wrote. “It’s been 5 weeks so far of not seeing them while I’m in hospital due to pregnancy complications. I miss them so much but Matt and Mum and Dad have done an incredible job. Also thanks to my beautiful friends for all the support.”

Lauren and her husband Matt Welsh now have six children together including Sam, 11, Eva, nine, Lola, six, Monty, two, Perla, 18-months and now their seven-week old newborn.
