‘Our hearts are broken’: Priscilla Presley leads tributes for Lisa Marie’s birthday

On what would have been Lisa Marie Presley’s 55th birthday her mother, Priscilla, has delivered a poignant tribute as fans across the globe remember the King of Rock’s only daughter on her special day.

Lisa Marie passed away on Thursday, January 12 after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest.

According to TMZ, Lisa Marie was rushed to hospital after emergency services attended her home, where they performed CPR before taking her to hospital.

Shortly after being administered to hospital, Lisa Marie’s mother arrived to be by her daughter’s side.

Priscilla later announced the news of her daughter’s “devastating” death in a statement, while thanking the public for their “love and prayers”.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” she said.

“She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”

Although Lisa Marie sadly never made it to her 55th birthday, Priscilla marked the occasion with a heartfelt message in honour of her late daughter.

“Today would have been Lisa’s 55th birthday. My wish is to protect my three grandchildren and keep our family together,” Priscilla began.

“From the first moment I held Lisa in my arms, I’ve protected, loved and guided her, as I have my son.

“Our hearts are broken, and I am having to learn to live without my only daughter. We truly love all of you, and we feel your prayers. Thank you so much for caring so deeply for our family.”

Priscilla’s post was flooded with messages of love and support from fans who expressed their ongoing sadness over the passing of Lisa Marie.

“Love and healing going your way. Deeply sorry for your loss. May she Rest In Peace,” one fan shared.

“Happy birth day LMP. Priscila please stay strong, we are praying for you and your family.”

“I’m so sorry for your profound loss Priscilla. The world grieves with you,” another wrote.

“Happy Birthday to our beautiful Lisa. We will miss her forever and our thoughts are with you Cilla!”

“Praying for you and everyone that loves Lisa ???? Happy Heavenly Birthday.”

Priscilla’s message seemingly inspired many across the globe to reflect on Lisa Marie’s life while celebrating her birthday.

As fans take the day to honour the many achievements and milestones of Lisa Marie’s life, many will no doubt reflect on her successful music career which followed the release of her debut album, To Whom It May Concern, in 2003.

The album reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and was certified gold in June 2003.

Her second album, Now What, was released on April 5, 2005 and reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Lisa Marie co-wrote 10 songs for the album.

Lisa Marie’s third album, Storm and Grace, on May 15, 2012 which was widely praised by critics.

In addition to her singing career, Lisa Marie was also involved in a number of charitable endeavours.

Lisa Marie acted as chairperson for The Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation (EPCF) which funded programs such as Presley Place which provides homeless families up to one year of rent-free housing, child day care, career and financial counseling, family management guidance and other forms of assistance to help them break the cycle of poverty.

The EPCF also established the Elvis Presley Music Room, where children from Presley Place among others can enjoy access to musical instruments and instruction programs.

Lisa Marie also joined Oprah Winfrey to assist with the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina where she helped deliver food and essentials to families who had lost everything.

In addition to her music career and charitable work, Lisa Marie was a mother of four. She shares her eldest daughter Riley with her first husband Danny Keough. The couple also had a son together in 1992, Benjamin Keough, who sadly passed away in 2020.

Following marriages to Michael Jackson and Nicholas Cage, Lisa Marie married American guitarist Michael Lockwood in 2006, whom she shared twin daughters, Harper and Finley. The couple divorced in 2016.

Lisa Marie is survived by her mother, her three daughters and half-brother, Garibaldi.
