Investigative journalist Anthony Summers has suggested iconic American actress and model Marilyn Monroe could quite possibly have been murdered for “knowing too much”.

Monroe was infamous for her intimate romantic relationships with President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy – relationships which many believe led to her untimely death.

Summers new Netflix documentary The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes details his long-time investigation into the life and death of Monroe “as he returns to the infamous case for the streaming giant’s new documentary in the hopes of answering the questions that have dodged Monroe’s death for six decades now”.

In an opening trailer for the documentary, Summers reveals he had, in fact, found evidence of foul play in relation to Monroe’s shock death in 1962.

“I did find evidence the circumstances of her death had been deliberately covered up,” Summers reveals in the trailer.

It is widely suspected that Monroe’s connections with highly powerful and dangerous political groups and members may have ultimately placed the target on her back.

“The truth and Marilyn, it’s like going into the lion’s den. If there’s any mystery about Monroe’s death, powerful and important eminent men seemed to me to be central.”

According to Daily Mail, “FBI files revealed that Monroe was considered a threat to national security for her friendships with known American left-wingers and communists, at her time of death. J. Edgar Hoover was especially concerned that Hollywood’s golden girl was disseminating state secrets gleaned through pillow talk with the country’s first and second in command”.

Monroe was found dead on August 5, 1962, in her Brentwood home. She was 36 years of age at the time of her death, which was declared as “probably overdose”.

The new documentary, released to Netflix on Wednesday, April 26, will strive to uncover a number of Monroe’s unsolved life mysteries and inconsistencies. Another upcoming investigative documentary titled Marilyn, Her Final Secret will be released in June, 2022, and will follow an investigation into to identity of Monroe’s long-long father whom she never met.
