It’s been months since actor Michael Douglas bid farewell to his father and Hollywood great Kirk Douglas, but he’s certainly not been forgotten with the star sharing a beautiful unseen family snap this week to mark his step-mother’s birthday.

Taking to social media on Thursday, the 75-year-old penned a beautiful message to his step-mother Anne Douglas on her 101st birthday, alongside a gorgeous photo of himself with his parents from years ago.

In the snap a young Michael could be seen standing beside Anne and Kirk, who had big smiles spread across their faces as they posed for the pic – a reminder of their beautiful times shared together.

“Happy birthday Anne Douglas! The best stepmother a stepson could hope for!” Michael wrote alongside the photo.

Fans were quick to comment, leaving their well-wishes for Anne on her special day.

“Great picture of you all,” @michelle_2470 commented on the Instagram post. “Happy Birthday to Anne Douglas.”

“What a beautiful picture! Happy Birthday!” @farr2423 said. While @dianebald added: “Happy Birthday Anne! Keep on keeping on!”

Meanwhile, Michael’s wife Catherine Zeta-Jones also took to Instagram to wish Anne a Happy Birthday, with a gorgeous snap of the two together and a sweet message.

“Happy Birthday to my extraordinary step-mother-in-law,” the actress wrote on the post. “Our queen, our Oma. You personify everything that is good in a woman. I admire you and love you so very much. 101 years young today. Anne Douglas thank you for everything that you have done for people in our world.”

This was followed by a message from Cameron Douglas, the son of Michael Douglas and his former partner Diandra Luker. Cameron, who is also an actor, shared a snippet of Anne’s birthday celebrations via his Instagram account, with footage showing him doing a drive-by meeting with his grandmother with his family.

“Here we are coming to Anne’s 101st birthday! First birthday without Pappy,” he could be heard saying as he waited to drive into the driveway to see Anne. “Now we’re going to stay with it as we go through this amazing procession … we’ve been in line for about 20 or 30 minutes. I’d wait 20 or 30 hours to say Happy Birthday to Anne, and here we go.”

As they drove closer they were greeted by a number of people wearing masks who were there to keep Anne company while her family and friends came to say Happy Birthday.

“Hello, hello, hello! We’ve got some flowers for Anne,” he could be heard saying as someone stepped toward the car. While Anne sat patiently in a wheelchair under a tree next to her dog.

The birthday celebration comes months after Kirk passed away. The sad news was confirmed back in February by his son Michael, who penned an emotional tribute to his “legendary” father online.

“It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “To the world he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to.

“But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband.”

Michael added: “Kirk’s life was well lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come, and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet.

“Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad- I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son. #KirkDouglas”
