More than a year on from the heartbreaking loss of her mother, Australian swimming legend Lisa Curry has honoured her late mum by releasing her ashes in a place she loved “more than anywhere else in the world”.

Taking to Instagram, Curry shared a photo of her scattering her mother’s ashes in the Greek Islands alongside a caption explaining the significance of the location.

“My mum loved the Greek Islands more than anywhere else in the world. Her bedroom looked like Santorini with all the blues and whites. So I decided to bring her ashes and leave them here,” she wrote.

“I got lost in the back streets and separated from our group so I just made my way up the hill and by chance found this cute donkey next to the windmills.

“I knew straight away that this was the place for her ashes. Mum would always laugh about the time she rode a donkey back in the 70’s and how it would wander over to the edge and look over!

“Mum would love this.

“Don’t worry, no one rides this donkey, it’s just for photos.

“So Mum is in Greece. Dad is in Ireland, and Jaimi is everywhere I go.”
